Spendthrift Farm’s Tamara conjured memories of her Hall of Fame mother Beholder while stamping herself as the likely Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) favorite with an emphatic win by about eight lengths in the Sept. 9 Del Mar Debutante (G1) at Del Mar.
With Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith aboard, Tamara sat off the early pace set by Pushiness in :21.85 but made a startling early move early in the turn to put that one away, effortlessly opening up on the field with her ears pricked.

Laurent made a strong move into second at the top of the stretch but never threatened Tamara, who went on to win easily. Laurent finished second, with longshot Gate to Paradise third.
“I’m at a loss for words for what she did today,” Smith said.
Tamara paid $4.60 as the favorite.
